Stillness

Happy 2017!

There's just something exciting about a new year. A new calendar, new possibilities, a new beginning. Many people also see it as a time to declutter and return to simplicity after a busy and full holiday season.

I am by no means an extreme minimalist, but I am the kind of person who gets overwhelmed with too many details, too many choices, too much mail piled up on the counter and too many unread emails. As it all adds up, an anxious feeling slowly fills me, while depleting my soul.

Just as I was ready to declutter and clean my house after Christmas, I'm also ready to declutter my soul so that I can face each new day in peace, rest in His presence and have more energy and capacity to love others.

Author Emily Freeman shares, “Stillness is to the soul what decluttering is to our homes.”

We’re all busy and could use a few more hours in the day, but I think we could face each day with more peace if we uncovered a little time each day to be still, breathe and hear His voice.

“…He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul…” (Psalm 23:2-3, ESV)

The Lord desires to lead us to places of stillness, of peace and to restore us to who He creates us to be. I pray that you would make room and let Him restore you every day in 2017.
